View compareHow to Replace Your Golf Grips (Step-by-Step)
Regripping your clubs at home is straightforward and cost-effective. With the right tools, most golfers can regrip a full set in under an hour.
What You’ll Need:
Hook blade or utility knife (hook blade recommended to avoid shaft damage)
- Grip tape (double-sided)
- Grip solvent (or mineral spirits)
- New grips
- Towel
- Vise with rubber shaft clamp (recommended)
Step 1: Remove the Old Grip
Secure the club in a vise with a rubber clamp. Cut the old grip lengthwise using a hook blade and peel it off. Remove all old tape from the shaft.
Step 2: Apply New Grip Tape
Apply double-sided grip tape along the shaft, stopping about ½ inch from the end. Tuck excess tape into the shaft opening.
Step 3: Activate with Solvent
Pour grip solvent inside the new grip, cover the hole, and shake to coat the interior. Pour the excess solvent over the taped shaft.
Step 4: Install the Grip
Quickly slide the grip onto the shaft in one smooth motion. Align any logos or patterns immediately before the solvent begins to set.
Step 5: Let It Set
Allow grips to dry for at least 1–2 hours before light handling and overnight (8–12 hours) before play.
